Pump-action Mini-14?

I was browsing the web today and came across this New Zealand gun magazine website, New Zealand Guns and Hunting

In issue 69 (about a year ago) there was apparently an article titled "A Pump Action Mini 14" by Paul Scarlatta. I couldn't find any info about the gun on the net.

Any ideas?

Might be like those pump-action AK-47's I've seen... someone's idea to try and make it legal where "semi-automatic assault weapons" are banned.
I've never shot one, but it seems like a total loser to me.

I hope we one day in the future, we won't be asking others in this forum, how do we convert our "banned" semi-auto's into pump actions. Mike K. will probably have developed solid gas port bushings by then, and a fancy pump hand grip.

Those pump-aks are pretty awful. They could have made a decent looking slide forend at least.

Someone once (maye 10 yrs ago) had a stock / system that provided a pump grip that allowed you to rack the action to chamber the first round, or clear a round, using the pump feature, like the SPAS ppump/semi shotgun. I thought *that* was pretty slick, although the lines were not as graceful.... And I can see the utility (if there were a gas system valve as on the M14) to be able to turn it off if you don't want to throw your brass around at the range, when there are other shooters nearby, or when you want to collect them clean.... So I think it would have it's place, if it were optional add-on, not a hack job that disables semi-auto function.

i dont think you will see the mini being converted into a pump to be legal, the way these bills have been written up, it seems that what offends the gun grabbers is the idea of interchangable magazines, which, by the way had absolutely NO bearing on the bushmaster sniper shootins earlier this year, seems that they were making one shot from the trunk of a car and getting out quickly. anyway, back to the point i was intending to make, looks to me that ruger could convert the mini into a fixed magazine, kinda like the sks, OR, just convert it to fixed box magazine like the 77, OR, better yet, convert the system to an enbloc clip ala the M-1
