Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the welcome the other day. I have a question about adding things to my 183 series Mini; first can I add a pistol grip stock that is non-folding and have a Flash/Muzzel break and 20-30 rd magazine, is this beyond what is legal, the Mini came with just the standard wood stock and 5rd mag. Second, since it is a preban can I add anything I want to it without worrying about legalities.

i guess it depends on where you live, and who your niebhors are.

i don't know about california or new york, but i'm sure that no one in utah is really out to nab some post-ban mod offenders.

not once, even at public fireing ranges, even when showing my mini to known LEO, did anyone ask or check if it was prepost ban.

but i do think you are safe to mod your mini 183.

if you haven't, check out my 183 mini pics in the gallery. sounds like you might be making somthing similar. i have almost all the evil things on mine, except a bayo lug and folding stock. maybe i'll get them just to be subversive.

i'll be putting up some better ones now that i have the deeper knowledge of posting pics on the internet.

I live in Az. a very gun friendly state, I was reading some previous threads and came across one that Cajun replied to that stated if your preban did not come with any of the evils other than the detachable magazine that you could only add one more evil to the preban; just curious and I do not want to lose my ability to own a firearm, know what I mean.

If your firearm was not configured as a preban before the ban, even if the firearm was manufactured before the ban, you can't legally configure it as preban after. If you were the owner of the firearm before the ban you shouldn't have any problem. It's your word against theirs. They have to prove you wrong. If you obtained the firearm from another party after the ban, it gets a little dicey. In this case, you would most likely need some supporting documentation from the individual you obtained the rifle from. Irregardless, it is my understanding that no law abiding citizen has ever been prosecuted for configuring a firearm manufactured before the ban, as evidenced by serial number, into a preban configuration after the ban.

I believe you can add all the 'evil' things if your state allows it. I do remember that pre-ban AW-type receivers which were not completed prior to the law had to built in post-ban configuration when completed (this is a gray area I suppose, hingeing on date of purchase). Since yours is a completed rifle I believe you can do as you wish. Verify your make date first.

If you have a gun made before September 14, 1994 (pre-ban), you are able to have as many of the dangers on it as you would like legally.

The caveat is that the gun has to have been in an "assault weapon" configuration on or before the ban took place.

Just to stir the pot a little on this: If they allow the Assault Weapon bill to sunset, as should happen, will this allow us to modify our minis to include all the so called "bad" items regardless of date of manufacture? I have all the hi-cap mags I hope I need, but would like to add a few other goodies.
I can only hope they will sunset this ornerous legislation.

If it does sunset (I doubt it), but if it does, then they can produce some good hi-cap mags, and for a decent price. I'd be stocken up.
