**ALERT** Dumb question time..

I am in the process of acquiring what the seller is referring to as a "preban 10/22". What is the difference between this and all the other rugers? Is it more desireable or less? Thanks

Well, since no 10-22 that I'm aware of came from the factory with a bayonet mount, flash hider or collapsable stock... all it means is that it's an old gun. I think you can add one of those features to it if you'd like? Why you'd do that, I don't know. Now, some 'pre-ban' mags would be nice (ie: standard capacity instead of the post 94 reduced capacity 10 round jobs).

Welcome to the forum zaitsev. Here is a link on the federal law. The last sentense sums it up.
Federal Laws:

If you have a gun made before September 14, 1994 (pre-ban), you are able to have as many of the dangers on it as you would like legally. The caveat is that the gun has to have been in an "assault weapon" configuration on or before the ban took place. Also check your states laws, as they can exceed the federal law, or not.

Ruger rifle age link (not 100% accurate, but a rule of thumb) http://www.sportables.com/ruger_rifles.htm
