Dangit, I can't find the Ruger mini14 and mini30 series and date table I used to have. But I'm not sure if mini30's came out before the ban. I know the timing was very close,I'd check with Ruger to make double sure. From a collector stand point,if it's one of the few if any preban mini30's,it might have some value. Just don't try to use it with anything but 5rd Ruger mags,or they won't work!

Singleside, you know how big of a mini-14 fan I am. So I decided to get a mini-30 to shoot up all this 7.62x39 I have piled up. I must say it was the most dissapointing thing I've done for as long as I can remember! I tried 18 different mags (some were the same type) and the only ones that would even come close to functioning was the John Mason 10 rd,and that 30-45rd expandable thermold. And those 30-45rd thermolds are more scarce than chicken lips and 4x as expensive!Call me strange, but if my semi-auto gun can't hold more than 10rds,(the thermolds are too expensive to keep in quantity) I don't want it.But remember, this is only my experience, and other people seem to have more luck with it. It was the mags, not the gun that was the problem, most of them were verey shoddy constructed, feed lips not the same height, flimsy tack welds, poor fitting followers,etc....

Thanks lcm, that's what I was looking for.

The magazines for the mini14/30 that will work well can be a problem,I use my mini14/30 all the time and have had good results for the low cost end using usa magazines thirty rounders for both the mini 14 and 30. I have not tried the twenty rounders yet. Only if the ban is lifted will we see any good mags. Just wondering why the pre-ban mini 30 will or wont take a high capacity magazine?:usa: :ar15:

I've got a pre ban mini 30. Bought it several years ago, but after the ban date. If I remember right, I paid $350 used, in excellent condition. Have a couple of 20 round mags (manufacturer unknown) that will function well with carefully produced handloads, but fail to feed with steel case ammo fairly frequently. Love the gun though, even if limited to the 5 round mags.
