I know that with a handgun a private party transfer has to be thru an FFL. For a long gun is an FFL required or can you just do a face to face trade?
Also if I sell either a handgun or long gun out of State can I ship it to the receiving FFL or do I need o send it thru an FFL?

If you are talking "face to face" and not internet trading,or somthing similar,I don't think an FFL is required at all. However there might be some states that have a statute covering this now. But mine does'nt,so I know I can buy and sell privatly at will (within reason of course) without "BIG BROTHER" sticking his nose into it!!

I am the same as quadfan. (Holly cow-something we agree on- :D ) Face to face does not require a FFL involvement at all. Again this may differ with State to State. Selling privatly is up to the persons involved. BUT.........here in Idaho, you better not sell any weapon to a felon. Not sure how you are to know if he or she is a felon, but the Fed's do not care, so be careful of that................ <_<

Coyote brought up a good point-OBVIOUSLYDON"T SELL TO A KNOWN FELON!!That WILL get you into DEEP trouble!!

In my state, for example,we have a "pistol purchase permit" card, which is good for 3yrs and forgoes the NCIC check. So I just ask to take a look at theirs (the buyer) and my tail is covered!!! That's my little way of being sure.OR you can take down his drivers liscense #,most people would'nt argue with that.

One of these days I'd like to meet you Coyote! I bet we'd agree on lot's of stuff!! :D  :usa:
