I also prefer blued steel and wood.

I’m still evolving the sling arrangements.

it’s hard to beat paracord for simplicity. I went around the strut rather than the barrel due to heat concerns. I don’t love the smell of melting nylon in the morning.

However, I like this for flexibility as it can accommodate a regular sling strap, a QD swivel, an HK hook, or a Magpul hook. It’s not pretty but it works really well and there’s no nylon cord to melt.

I considered drilling and tapping the gas block for a sling swivel stud on the side of the gas block. However, this keeps things simpler, and there are not enough threads engaged for my taste in the thin metal on the side of the gas block.

I also grudgingly swapped out the wood handguard for something that dissipates heat a bit better.

I suspect this is the final configuration for this particular Mini 14:
  • 184 Series Mini-14;
  • 16” 1-10” twist barrel;
  • Choate Browning style flash hider and front sight;
  • front sight blade slightly thinned to give an M14 NM sight picture;
  • Tech Sights RR200 rear sight;
  • SOCOM length AccuStrut;
  • .045” gas port bushing;
  • Mini 14 shock buffer;
  • Samson folding stock; and
  • Accuracy Systems ventilated alloy hand guard.

Series 181, cyrogenicially treated barrel and receiver, Accuracy Store gas pipe, trigger job and shimmed receiver to stock. 1 to 1-1/4 MOA depending on ammo and my eyes.

I have pretty much the same rig for the scope for my 181GB and works well, although I have removed the optics. Nice that one can switch between optics and irons by just switching from chin-weld to cheek-weld. Blue Loctite is essential, though for the fastening screws...

Like with you, it is more accurate than I am...
