identifying traits on the mag body, and the follower is unique to my knowledge for 30 rounders as well. Anyone can buy floorplates, it's being able to distinguish the bodies that help discern what they are or aren't......
As far as PMI's, that is the gist I catch here........but USA's are junk from personal experience..

Hi Paul. I have a PMI 40 rdr s/s that is non functional. Feel like I got suckered on that one and WILL NOT buy another PMI. The Pro Mag 10 rdrs from FourFour Mag, on the other hand, work without fail. He guarantees em too.....

the series of the rifle?

I have a 182 series made in 1981 and am wondering if different magazines work better or worse in older or newer rifles?

That is something i have not seen addressed here, any input?

thanks,
Paul

I don't think the series of rifle is going to make to much difference. The 5 round factory mags seem to work in all of them. Gonna be a tough going getting good hi-caps in Calif. I'd suggest grabbing some pro mag 10 rounders. They work well for me and you can find them fairly cheap at the gun show in either Pomona( if they still hold it) or Del Mar.

Hey panderson. There has been some research in this area. The older series have longer mag latches, than the newer series. Check out this 3 page thread: http://www.perfectunion.com/forums/showthr...ght=short+latch

"seem to recall others posting that you cannot even trade nor buy standard capacity magazines in Kali anymore...those that go out of state and bring them back into Kali are subject to a felony conviction if caught..."

MIKR, you are correct but I never said anything trading, buying or selling HI-CAP mags here in CA.

panderson, I wasn't directing that towards you, at all. You did not say a thing about Kali and the mag ban-I am sorry, I should have clarified that. I did not even know you were in Kali.

Rmeyer, STANDARD capacity for which the rifle was originally designed-which was certainly not ten rounds. 5 rounds is not standard, nor is 10.
"High caps" and "banana clips" are terms coined by anti-gun politicos and the media in which the "sheeple" adopt as bible. The M16/AR was not designed to hold 9 rounds, as Colt was recently supplying with new rifles. The original was tried with 25 rounds, then standardized to 20, and then we went to 30 in deference to Vietnam.

That is what is meant by standard capacity magazines.

We could make a special exception for Komiefornians and call 5 rounders standard, for those imprisoned there:D

Welcome to the forum Airman.

I've not had any problems with my PMI's, but it seems recently some members have had problems. Maby the upgrading the followers like you did may be the key.

I have heard that is considered manufacturing a new magazine. I could be wrong but I would be very careful with that.

If it weren't for the follower tip, airman (are you an E-2 or -3?), I'd have had the silly thought that you may have been an ATF troll.....which has been all too prevalent on firearms boards lately.
There have been a couple of very low post count users here who voiced illegal suggestions, but I assure you, this is not the place for those "suggestions"...and those "suggestions or tips" are promptly removed....:D
