hi, i live in pa, never hunted, and just wanted to shoot some ground hogs on a local farmers land. i own a mini 14. is there anyway i can use this weapon for my purposes? i know hunting with semi auto is illegal here in pa, but could i disable my gas system so it is bolt operated and be legal? what an annoying law.

Don't know about Pa hunting regs. But the Mini with the right loads will humanely kill chucks farther than most people can get reliable bullet placement.

Hey wahturi. Just out of curosity, I was looking at your states hunting regs. Some areas you can't use a rifle at all, you can't use game calls, can't hunt certain animals on Sunday, can't hunt small game except with .22 rimfire during bear,or deer season, and can't have an imuminated crosshair on your scope. You have to wear 250 sq.in of hunter orange unless hunting crows.

I would ask the game warden about your question, I could find no provision for modifying a semiauto rifle.

BTW, do you have Hunting Regulation Attorneys in your state?

yeah, i came across some of those rules on my search. pretty weird. i was calling gunsmiths to do trigger jobs on my mini and only 1 out of 4 would even consider it. "thats a semi auto right?" they would say. then they would act like i was asking them to turn it automatic or something. i really had no idea how bad this state was with gun laws until i purchased my mini.

i do not know if i have hunting regulation attorneys here. plinked all my life, but never hunted.

Wahturi,
Where in Pa. are you? I'm in the Poconos, and there are a couple of smiths that will work on a Mini even though they might think its not worth it but I know for a fact that at least one is excellent.

GREYBEAR, i live in the harrisburg area. i actually started working on it myself last week. i cut a coil off my sear spring and it feels a lot better. now i just need to polish a bit.

and about the hunting thing, i talked to a warden and he said i would have to braze the gas hole in the barrel shut if i wanted to hunt with it. yeah right. i might just find some farmers with a lot of land and shoot ground hogs there if they say its alright.
