Has anyone used or reviewed the Nikon 8489 M-223 Riflescope?

It has a range adjustment reticle, and is a 3-12x42 and a 1" tube diameter. Made specifically for the .223/5.56 so it says.

They also have a rail mount for it but im not sure about the difference between the 2.

I dont have that model, but I have the Nikon M223 2-8x32mm with the BDC 600 reticle.

It says made for the 5.56 because of the BDC reticle.

But the BDC reticle can be adapted for any caliber by the Nikon SpotOn software.

I haven't been able to test my BDC reticle because all the land over here is private farmland, not wide open space...so all the ranges are 100 yards or less.

The adjustments are great, and the glass is amazingly clear. That I can vouch for ;)

I have the M223 2X8 mounted on my AR. I am using the M223 mount also and am very happy with the setup. I just traded for a Ruger M77 Mark II VT. I am trying to decide between a Leupold Mark AR 6X18 or another M223 in 4X16. This will be used for 300 yd target shooting. The gun club I belong to longest range is 300 yds so I plan on zeroing it at 300 and leaving it there. I can use my AR for 100, 200, and 300 yds. For this reason I don't really need the rapid turret or BDC on the Ruger. I am more concerned with clarity and magnification. I can't find the Leupold locally to check out so I am kind of flying blind. I have been trying to find opinions on the Leupold scopes as compared to Nikons.

I can tell you one thing. Leupold uses Nikkor glass in their scopes. It is the optical glass grinding division of Nikon Inc. In other words, Leupold only makes the tubes and turrets, Nikon makes their glass.

I was thinking of a Nikon M-308 for my AR10. Second choice was the Vortex Viper HS with the V-Plex Reticle. I currently have a Leatherwood CMR, but its not enough scope for the rifle. So the Leatherwood goes on the 300 Blackout and a new scope is now in order. So what is the opinion on the new Nikon?
