I guys, first time posting. Just wanted to let you know that this fourm is great and loaded with great info.

Picked up a new Mine-14 ranch, wood stock from Wal-mart. After break-in (200 rds, 100/5 shot/clean then 100 10/shot/clean) did a 10 round target shoot for the record before accurizing this gun.

The attached photo shows two groups of 5 rounds (upper and lower groups). One click on windage and elevation from upper to final group on the lower. Shooting off my home made shooting/cleaning table, target at 100yds. From what I think these are groups of approx 1 1/4" with a 3/4" flyer. Ammo is Winchester 55gr FMJ. This is an out of the box shooter with store bought ammo, (maybe 1 in 1000 gun to shoot this good). I don't know why I would want to do anything with this gun. But you know addiction........!

I sent the trigger assembly to Mike Knifong. He stated that the trigger measured 7 1/2lb before his work. After he did his magic is was 3 1/2 lb with the first stage at 2 lb and now creep. Sent it out on a Monday and got it back on a Saturday along with the gas ports and shok-buffer. Great job and turn-a-round Mike.

Waiting to do the glass bedding, JM muzzle break on order. I'll keep you posted for the next testing.

No Fastang50 not an AR, this out of the box Mini-14 I think is one of the best shooters that I have. They must of had a good day at the factor when they kicked this one out. You will be real happy with Mike's trigger job. Can't wait until I get this one glass bedded and install the muzzle brake. I am hoping to eliminate the paper in the bullseye.

That is good, I don't think I would do any thing more to it than you've done. You got a keeper. If you have the addiction get a 10/22 there is so much you can do with them, and it dosen't cost much either.

Thanks guys, I think I will wait on the glass bedding until after the muzzle break. I installed the gas ports and shok-buffer yesterday. Can't shoot until Thursday. The gas port screws were so tight that two of the bolts next to the body stripped the allen screw. Had to go down and buy easy-out set to get them out and new screws to install. I installed the medium port from Mike Knifong.

I should say that when I bought the gun I took it apart to see what it was all about. I did notice that when re-installing the trigger that it pulled the action down to the stock about a 1/16". I didn't like the way this put pressure on the action and ultimately I feel, the barrel it self. I say the "barrel" because the pivot point is the stock to the gas port then the action is levered down by the trigger assembly. I believe this is putting unnecessary strain on the barrel between the gas port and rear of the barrel at the action connection. (Does this make any sense)?

Before any shots were taken I sanded the stock and adjusted the assembly receiver metal to make an un-binding snug fit, action to the stock. Trigger still went on tight but didn't lever down the action.

I am wondering if this is why it shoots out of the box so well???

Hmmmmm, back in the archives somewhere, I remember someone doing the same thing, but I have not seen a before, and after test. Maby someone would like to try it?

The only caution, if you go too far, and create slack at that point, the muzzle will move in the stock, creating more inaccuracy.:(

You may have hit on something Billy.;)

Yeah cajungeo, if you file or sand to far you will create extra un-wanted slop for the action/barrel to move in the stock. My process was a few swipes with sandpaper or file then set the action for fit. Kept doing this until everything set down without binding or pressure when installing the trigger assembly.

My only regret was that I didn't shoot before I did the fit.

The one thing I did when I began to mod my mini, was to shoot before, and after each mod. It proved to myself that my effort was paying off. It does increase satisfaction, a little reward for the work. :D I encourge anyone who does anything to their mini to do a before, and after shoot. I'm not talking about 1 group. I'm talking about an average 5 or more groups of 5, using a solid bench rest, sand bag or bipod set up with the same ammo, so there is no doubt.

Then post the results, the other members appreciate it, as I did when I was the newbe, whether it is good or bad. I believe thats one reason we have come so far in this forum, the sharing of info, and things tried. Good or bad. ;)
