Went to the range yesterday to test my new Leupold 2X7. Good price about 1 months-hostile fire pay. I really like the compact size it only has a 33-mm OBJ so it is the exact same size as the 4X I replaced. This is my first "good" scope and I truly enjoy the additional eye relief. I highly recommend it for the mini. Does anyone have an easy way to ensure the reticule is aligned with the bore? I am not doing to well eyeballing it. Too windy to give a report on accuracy improvements. Wonderful day though. I have been deployed and it was my first chance to go shoot with my 8-year-old since NOV. We went though a carton of .22 and 25 rounds of 5.56. It takes a while since my boy shot about 300 rounds though his single shot and I shot my, new only been to the range once before, Mark II Standard Auto with bull barrel. Our favorite targets are golf balls followed by clay pigeons Certainly one of those days we will both remember.

I bought my Mini-14 primarily for my 10 year old to shoot. We both go to West End Gun Club at least once a month. He started shooting the Mini-14 when he was 8. We bring soda, tons of plastic bottles filled with water, and anything else we can find. We go on "off" hours when we are the only ones there.

We have had the time of our lives doing this.

If you want to see a look on your sons face that you will never forget. Take him shooting at night. Get some Wolf ammo and watch the expression he has when your mini turns into a flame thrower. My Mini has a 14.5" barrel with a muzzle brake. The explosion of the unburnt power is beach ball size.

I wouldn't trade these times for all the money in the world.

Jeff, I know what you mean on the leupold, the image is so bright, and sharp.

If you are having a time leveling the reticule you can pick up a small bubble level at the hardware for a couple of bucks, using your benchrest, bipods, or a v shape block etc to hold your mini as you set it, insert the bubble in the trigger guard, and level your mini, then carefully set it on the top of the scope elevation cap, with rings loose. Rotate scope till its level, recheck level on mini, then tighten rings (use loctite), then recheck.

As your leupold manual states, set your scope on max power setting to adjust fwd/ back to adjust eye relief. I do this first then rotate to set the reticule.

I put Butler Creek flip up covers on my scopes to protect lens coatings from dust, dirt, water, scratches, etc

Halfway between. I got the increase backdated till Nov so I got a big chunk. It was $179 It is the cheapest of the VXI leupolds. However I bought it because it is the one I wanted I like the 2X for short range and it is very compact and looks good on the mini. Unit, 32d Army Air Missile Defense command. Nothing exciting I did targeting in the Air Operations Center with an emphasis on Theater Ballistic Missiles.

Between that and the separation allowance increase you probably did get a nice check.

I've been looking at the VX II for a Remington 700. Need to break down and get it so I'll have time to mount it before deer season. Although this may be a pretty poor deer season. I think I'm headed to Tampa this summer. Bound to be some kind of hunting down there.

Hi,
Go to: http://www.scopesight.com/ and get a reticle leveler, I did the reticle shuffle-tweak for years til I got one of these @ $20, this will make life so much easier for anyone mounting a scope. When I got it I checked all my other rifles 5 out of 6 were off, must have just got lucky on that one. Check it out, wish I'd thought it up.

The trick is to have the reticle where you want it after you tighten the screws. I found you should tighten the screws like changing a tire, one screw on the front then the opposite side on the back ring. I mounted my leupold on a used 6mm remington ruger that I bought and had a heck of a time.

The 3-9 Leupold sure is bright.
