I just received back two of my Mini-14s that DRC customized. The workmanship is awesome! And, the test targets he shot at 50 yards are sub one inch! He said he just used cheap mil surplus for the test. I will take them out this weekend. Man, the trigger on both guns feel awesome.

I will post again after I shoot the gun. Dave at DRC is a pleasure to deal with. I can not recommend him enough.

Hey Dave -
I looked at DRC's website and saw that "Choat flash hider to muzzle break convesion" feature.
Being a scared californian, I'm not comfortable with anything on the end of my mini barrel.
How are you sure that you're cool with the cali gun police?
(this is not a challenge, I'm really curious if you have some solid info that I can bank my clean criminal record on!):D

I understand what you are saying. This attachment is clearly a muzzlebrake because of the exit diameter at the end of the brake. It is just large enough for the bullet to pass through and allows the gas to provide the braking action. DRC converts the flash hider into this brake.

I do everything I can to be legal. Even though the laws are unconstitutional and stupid. I am pretty well informed and can say that I follow the rules 100%. However, it really is going to come to a point someday where all of us will be in violation of some law in this once great state. I know the day is coming soon. I am just not going to worry about it too much.

I took the two Mini-14s to the range this morning to test accuracy.

THE RESULTS WERE INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

I set up a target at 25 yards and fired South African and Wolf ammo off the bench. It was 6:30 am and just getting light out. I consistently shot 1/2" groups on both guns! (iron sights)

Then, I took each gun and put about 40 rounds down range within a minute or two. The barrel was too hot to touch. I sat down again and shot groups. I got 1/2" groups again. AND, most importantly, the POI did not change at all. Zero change. I was hitting the bulls eye.

I don't know what else to say. The accuracy, POI shift, and trigger were my biggest complaints against this gun. Now, all three problems are gone.

Just received my pre-ban stainless barrel back from DRC yesterday. Went with the flash suppressor instead of the compensator. The workmanship appears excellent. Will shoot this weekend if I can get past the rain and black flies. Peak season for both in the Adirondacks.

Correction. Went with the flash suppressor instead of the muzzle brake.

That was my post at Culver's. It is my opinion that most of the people there are jerks. I do not think I will post there in the future. If your gun is not a M1A, M1, or AR15 you are an idiot. If you don't support the war in Iraq, you are a traitor. I don't have time for that type of garbage. It is funny, I would bet most of those guys are out of shape old guys that could not run 3 miles without a coronary. The last time most of them did a push up was in the 1980s. Their guns will not save them. I run 5 miles per day, lift weights, have a black belt in Shotokan Karate, currently practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and realize my choice of gun does not mean squat.

The Mini-14 is not the perfect gun. With a short barrel, it is accurate enough for a civilian in any type of foreseable situation. It does not malfunction like the Bushmaster AR15 I USED to own. I would not hesitate to give it to my son or wife to protect themself in a SHTF situation. I will have my Garand.

I like the Mini-14. It is reliable and accurate enough with a short barrel. It is up to me to do the rest.

Yea I been there about a 1 1/2 yrs. Sometimes they do seem inane with
some of the posts that are written, and I'm probably just as guilty
as the a few, but I DO try and NOT cut anyone or their belongings.
That's my mini that's posted there.

I saw the reply Big John wrote, along with a couple others..Wasn't
called for, I agree. Sorry you had a bad experiance there. Take care.

Shot 20 rounds on Saturday and 20 on Sunday. No sense of even attempting to sight in until I paint the front sight post fluorescent orange. Right now it's just a blur due to presbyopia and stainless finish. I painted the original sight fluorescent orange in order to get a decent sight picture and anticipate it will work here as well. Was getting 2 inch groups shooting offhand at 25 yards so know that accuracy is a least as good as the full length barrel. Muzzle blast is no worse than the 16" barrel MT6530. All in all, it was good decision to go with DRC for barrel shortening. I highly recommend them for this purpose.
