nice Mini, I'm sure you will mod it to your liking but that stock wasn't meant to be comfortable, the bayonet lug on the tube wasn't meant add to eye appeal just for function which has it's own beauty IMO.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on the buy.

Folding stock could be worth money to correct buyer. What do you find uncomfortable about it?

It >>may<< be possible to swap out the pistol grip for something that better suits your hand. Adding some heater hose to top straight part of the wire stock will shield your cheek against hot/cold metal and raise your eye a bit. Butt plate could have some rubber added for scant cost.

Pix of the stock, and any maker's markings please.

looks like a Federal Ordnance to my untrained eye.

Stock is an early Choate, it has a lot of “tiger striping” on the bottom & sides that doesn’t show up in the picture. It’s a good looking stock but a decent cheek weld is impossible & the length of pull is a bit longer than i like on a rifle of this type….

I’m considering a new Choate (fixed pistol grip or ar butt pistol grip model) or the more traditional looking Hogue.

Nice find! I love the striping in the wood but, like you, would not keep that stock setup.

I don't know if you're thinking wood or synthetic but either way, here's some info from a guy who just did some stock swapping...

The old, 181-ish wood is long gone. I looked for a while before finding a decent one on Ebay and still overpaid a bit. The new wood stocks are available here and there but are longer and have that awful rubber butt pad like a shotgun. Some guys like it but I found it too long and the rubber always hung up on my shirt or jacket.

The current synthetic stocks (Ruger) are excellent if you like black. They fit perfectly without modification, unlike some of the aftermarket models. They are slightly shorter and have a great hard rubber butt pad. They are also much easier to grip if your hands are wet, unlike the slick wood stocks, IMHO.

Last time I checked, wood was in stock at Midway and synthetic was backordered. I recently got a notification that the synthetic was back but may be sold out again. Take a look.

Good luck with her and be safe!

It appears to be a GB model, pencil-barrel era (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). I have one. I bought it used in 1980, with a Choate folder which isn't particularly comfortable. It left the factory with a standard wooden stock, and I found one of that era so it is essentially as it left the factory. I've never had a problem or even a hint of a problem with it and it could reliably take down ½-silhouette pop-up targets at 300 meters using M193 ammo. It is still more accurate than I.

Unless you are independently wealthy, I would enjoy it for what it is - a piece of history. Should you want to get it back to as it left the factory, run the S/N through Ruger, talk to a person, and he/she can give you a history as to when it was built and how it left the factory. For $10, you can get the equivalent of a birth certificate for it.

Here's mine with the Choate folder.
