How to Mount Front Swivel Stud to Houge Stock?

Esp. Directed to Cajungeo....

I noticed on Cajungeo's mini and some of the others on here that they have mounted a front sling swivel stud on Houge Stocks so that the sling does not attach to the gas block (also allowing the mounting of a bi-pod w/o special adapters). I believe the stud comes on the stock for the rear one.

My question is for anyone who has done this, did you use the Uncle Mike's Swivel Kit Generic Rifle Model with Wood Screw and Machine Screw for Front or the Uncle Mike's Kit Esp. for Mini-14 with the really short front Machine Screw?

Any special mods, hints?

How far back to mount from front end of stock to allow say a Versa-Pod Bi-Pod Mount?

Sorry for taking so long to answer, I just got back from Lubbock Tex. visiting the relatives for Christ-mas. I used the uncle mikes machine thread stud on my Hogue, I mounted it far forward as the channel depth would allow. I used a thin nut, loctited the threads, and used a dremmel to grind off excess threads. It must be thin so the forestock slide rod guide can lay flat, and snap into place.

Could you please post exact location (in inches from the front or otherwise) where you've placed the stud in your Hogue stock? I intend to do the same on my Hogue OM stock.
On mine, channels seem shallower going forward rather than deeper.

Also, did you use a washer on the outside of the stock?

Hey voruzon. Thanks for catching my error. The channels become larger aft. I mounted it as far fwd as the smaller channels would allow. Center of the hole is 2.565" aft of leadedge of stock. Just infront of the 2nd channel wall. I did not use a washer. Did I say use a thin nut? Your milage may varry. Don't push too hard on the drill, let it cut. I didn't want to chance unbonding the rubber coating so use your foot, to hold it flat on a board so the rubber coating is sandwiched. I'm just cautious. Good luck.
