Is there a picatinny rail long enough that will allow me to use a G33 on my 581 series? The eye relief is only 2.2", so it has to be mounted way back. In fact, the rear sight would have to come off..
I have a weigand rail on it now and you can't mount the FTS mount over the rail mounting screws. It looks like the GG&G rail would work if it could be mounted backwards, but then you'd have a problem with ejecting empties.
If I can't find a rail to use, I have a $600 glass I can't use.
Thanks.

I ease thinking that Promag has a rai that will attach to the Ruger scope mounts, PM119A.

That is something I'd be REALLY interested in.
The only thing I've found so far, was from NC, and for $8.95, I'll give it a try.
But at that price, I don't hold out too much hope.
Sure hate to think I've got a $600 piece of glass I can't use.
Cudda bought another hand gun.
Thanks for your time.

Took a look at this and the rail doesn't go to the rear far enough and I don't need all the other rails.
Thanks for the idea.

Accuracy Systems Inc has some rails also, see thru rail for $89. Look under the mini 14 accessories tab.

Accuracy Systems - option F (almost bottom of page)

Just turn it around and cut off what you dont need!
That won't work.
There is a relief ground into the bottom right side of most rails that bridge the chamber, to ensure the empty cases are able to clear the rail on ejection.
If you turn it around, while it might fit, you'd have some problems with the empties hitting the bottom of the rail and falling back into the chamber.

Thanks for looking for me though.

Id believe that you wouldnt have any ejection problems. To me watching some slow motion videos that the relief cut is just a CYA for companies.
I may be completely wrong about that but thats how it looks to me.

Regency,
I agree it looks in the video, like the empties come out to the side more than up.
However there is one more thing to be considered and that is removing the bolt without having to take the rail off.
You can't do it with the Weigand, but from what I've heard, it can be done, although with a lot of wiggling, with a GG&G.
If the relief cut is on the wrong side, even though the empties may eject okay, there is no way you could take the bolt out without removing the rail.
So it's kind of a catch 22.

What about the item # TAR161 from CDNN
Just got one of those from Amazon today and it's no better than what I had.
For one thing, this rail is narrower than a standard picatinny rail. And the G33 wouldn't even tighten up on it. Plus, with all the overhang in the back, it still didn't get the magnifier back quite far enough.

I give up........... Gonna stick the G33 on an AR and just have an RDS on the Mini. If I were to try something else, I'd find a 1-4 illuminated scope that was a true 1x and try that. There is just no way I can see I'm going to be able to make this combination work.
I appreciate the links you sent me, just couldn't find the right combo.

Your best option for using a red dot w/magnifier set up on a Mini 14 is getting the Troy upgrade kit, makes it like mounting optics on a AR.
