Before I took possession of my Mini-30 Ranch, I had the opportunity to pick up a good deal on a Harris Bipod, which I assumed would mount to the stud on my Mini. But of course it doesn't unless I install an Uncle Mikes sling stud to my stock ( or use another contraption). I dissassembled the Mini, thanks to a site Cajungeo led me to (is the Mini simple or what?) to check out the clearance and how much wood I have to play with. Well, before I screw something up I want to ask this board's advice. Has anyone done this before, and how did you go about it? Looks to me like I need to relieve (for the nut) inside the stock, once I locate where the sling stud wants to be, and epoxy the nut in place for strength, and then of course, cut the sling stud to the proper length so I can reassemble the Mini. Any thoughts or advise is appreciated. Stan in Southern New Mexico.

Hey Peep. My personal opinion is with the wood stock is just too thin for a strong mount of a swivel stud especially after ya counter bored it for nut room. One good bump it might split your stock. As I mentioned before my Hogue had more room as there are ribs down there. If it were my mini I would use the adaptor HBP14. I found one for $17 at LS&B. Check out picture of unit and prices:

BTW I gave you some links for your post in the mag forum.

Cajungeo, yes I got the post, I was busy practicing with my Glock at the range. Thanks for both the posts, and the adapter might be cheaper than having a gunsmith try to epoxy the nut in place, and yes, it might be a bit weak at that.

I got hold of Mike Knifong and have his gas port bushing kit on the way. I dissasembled the rifle according to the directions on the site you advised, dissassembly was a "Piece of cake!" and I'm impressed how the Mini is made. Not as cheesey as I thought, but hey, I own several other Rugers and they are works of art. That's why Bill was inducted into whatever Hall of Fame like John Browning and others. Thanks again for the sites and the advice. I'm thinking about a Mini-14 next.
Love this site, Stan
