I recently ordered a set of Leupold mounts for my 444. I went to put them on and found that the front mount screws were too long. I measured the mounting holes and found them to be only about .095" deep. I have already installed a set of these on my 94 30-30 with no problem. I noticed that since the barrel is smaller on the 30-30 the holes can be drilled deeper in the receiver. All of this explanation is leading up to one question; are the holes on the 444 deep enough to keep a scope secure? This rifle has a lot of recoil and I don't want something that is going to eventually come loose. I can file the screws so they won't bottom out, but I want to get some other people's experience with scopes on this rifle before I modify any parts I have ordered.
