That is another way to look at it. Bugging out at times may be the best option. I was thinking of this as a, for example Hurricane Katrina, little or no rule of law. What is a quick grab kit to defend the homestead/family. Hopefully the little rule of law that may remain will not think gun confiscation an option, as in Katrina.
If "they" come around to confiscate firearms, rule of law is already gone. By the ones who swore an oath to uphold the law, as in the constitution. Hope it never comes to that, again. It just may result in rivers of blood in the streets.:(

Mass confiscation is a bad and dangerous thing. The govt is nervous about doing it. Also, beware of starting a war when a man is defending a home.

A man with a rifle behind every blade of grass. As far as infantry boots on the ground, we greatly outnumber the military. LEOs in many parts dont even want to touch the issue.

22lr - ballistic plates stop it, kevlar will not. Too small, and doesnt expand.

That was just in New Orleans, and only parts of New Orleans... the bad parts. Don't forget Katrina hit a whole lot more than N.O. People tend to forget that Katrina also obliterated the Mississippi Gulf cost region and traveled right dead center of Mississippi, leaving a destruction path as wide as the state. I even got to watch the eye pass over my house, and I'm in central Mississippi. With that said, I've been through 5 tornadoes, and 3 substantial hurricanes that made inland far enough to effect my community. And every time something bad happens here, our community comes together and people start breaking out the chainsaws, and cranking up the dump trucks. We clean up and move forward. Best advice I can give anyone is just to stay out of places like New Orleans, even on a good day they barely have rule of law.

My bug out kit for a natural disaster is a logging chain, axe, chainsaw, and my pick-up.

Pocket knives and fixed knives are two different creatures. If one thinks when it all goes bad, that a confrontation may not involve a gun or bullets is going to be sadly mistaken. Gun malfunction, out of ammo, weapon retention lost, gun is too loud, or not appropriate for the situation.

My two large edged weapons. A war hammer is coming next. Many spec ops teams are contracting with knife makers to build them custom hawks. The boys in Indo-China had it right!
