I THINK I have my 582 series SS Ranch tricked out. Mods made so far:
--home "trigger job" (much lighter than original)
--.045 gas bushing (brass flies 10-12ft between 1 & 2 o'clock)
--1911 rear recoil bushing
--Accu-Strut
--Filed front of op-rod to have more even contact with the gas block
--Bedded using snug tight fit metal shims at front and along sides of reciever held by epoxy
--Redfield 2X7 Accu-Range scope using Ruger mounts (tight w/blue loc-tite)
What I am looking for is a 200yd coyote gun not a long range prairie dog gun. Here's the "problem": the first 3-5 shots are in about 2.5" groups (sand bag rest @100yds) but after the gun warms up the groups shrink to 1.25 which is great but I'm never gonna be shooting at a standing 'yote with a warm barrel. I'd actually not mind if it were the other way around: tight for the first 3 shots then open up. By then it's hail Marys on the run anyway. When we're calling, the gun is gonna be cold and I want the first shot to count. I don't like the feel of an AR-15 and my bolt gun is too slow for many followup running shots. We hunt open country. The groups don't wander they just shrink. This was the first outing after bedding the rifle. Could it just be settling into the bedding? I didn't have the time or targets to let the gun get cold and do a reshoot.
Is there any more I can do like cryo or fire lapping or is this actually "good enough" and I should stop whining?
