The common heard reputation is that some minis are accurate and some just aren't. Is there any correlation to the stainless vs. steel barrel models ? I know it seems far-fetched, but ordinary steel is slightly stiffer than stainless. I wonder if that could make the difference ?

Yes it would make a difference, since the hardness differs and the resonant frequency of a given material differs (based on density, form, hardness, mass, etc.). The actual manufacturing techniques probably differ a bit as well.

But, as Bill often says, the accuracy of a Mini-14 isn't that great anyway.

So the minor variations in material type probably don't matter much. If you are looking to attain improved accuracy, try using a muzzle break.
