High folks,
New to the mini and this forum.
I recently bought a "like new" mini 14 580 SS tactical."20GBCP".
Supposedly only fired at the factory. I field stripped and cleaned after buying and found only small amount of powder residue in gas block.
Yesterday I took it to an indoor range 25 yards only and shot 20 rounds of Winchester 5.56 55 grain. Very first shot FTF. Reloaded same shell and shot every time after that. I did not fire rapidly just 2 shot rounds.
As I started picking up brass I noticed the projectile end of the casing bent on one side. Some worse than others. Any suggestions as to the cause?

Sounds to me like it just needs to be broken in. My 580 did the same thing when it was new back in 2008. After the first couple hundred rounds, it has run like a Swiss watch.

One suggestion I do have is that you post this in the main Mini-14 and Mini-30 section -- you'll get more answers, and faster than posting here in the Pictures section.

could be the brass is banging into your optic turret covers on the way out, that'll put a ding in them for sure
