I went to my first 3-gun match yesterday in Deming, NM. I took my Mini-30, Glock 17 and my 870. They all performed flawlessly and I was the only dude with a Mini-30. Everyone thought it was a Mini-14 till they went to tape the holes, or watch the steel poppers fall. Hey boy, what you shoot'n there? Everyone wanted to know. Anyhow, after Mike's gas port busing and recoil buffer, my Mini shoots like a champ. 80 yd targets were no problem. Man what fun, I am hooked. We're having a 3-gun match here in Las Cruces on the 22nd if anyone is interested. Just e-mail me for details. Later, Stan

Glad ya had some fun. Even if ya don't come in number 1, ya can still have fun with it. Course being number 1 dosen't make one unhappy either. :D

I was 11th out of 16 shooters, but most were LEO and military, and really hot shooters. One stage I did in 55 seconds and the top gun did 24 seconds. It is amazing to watch them burn the course. I discovered point shooting works best at the really close ranges, even with the rifle. But, I have no complaints. I came home a happy camper. Later, Stan

We started a D-RATS club here in Las Cruces this past year. That stands for Desert Rapid Action Target Shooters (primarily IDPA type shooting). We have over a hundred folks interested in this shooting and 80 in our club. Some of the experienced shooters kept mentioning 3-gun matches, and how much fun they are.

Well, I'm here to tell you, they are the most fun you could possibly have with your clothes on. Some targets may be 5 feet away and others 80 or more yards. Some paper, some steel, maybe a gong or two, some boobie traps where a clay bird pops up in the air. Of course you know before hand if it is a rifle (handgun, shotgun) only stage, or handgun/rifle, or handgun/shotgun combination. And a stage could progress from handgun, to shotgun, to rifle, or any combination. The Mini-30 really shines and knock the steel dead.

We have 3-gun matches here, and in Deming, and in El Paso, TX, and now I found out there is a big rife, shotgun and pistol club in Albuquerque. If you like to shoot, look up a club near you. Later, Stan in Southern New Mexico
