Hi, I was referred to this site by Charles B. on Culvers shooting forum.

My grandson put one of my 22-250 rounds into his 223 ranch rifle (late 1990 model). I tried to rack it out, then, The "bolt" came out of the rifle.

I watched utube to see how to install the bolt, but I'm stuck on step #1 (the trigger assembly unlatches 1/2" but will not come-out.). If I pry the guard any harder, it will surely bend. Also, it seems that the safety will not engage with the bolt out.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. The guys on Culvers can't believe that the bolt came out while the trigger assembly is IN.

Thanks, Tom

Is the hammer cocked? If not you need to cock it somehow. If the bolts out it should be easy. I'm trying to picture how that happened also, unless you yanked the charging handle so hard the op-rod pulled out of its track and off the bolt.

Don't force that trigger guard to much, you will bend the ears that latch into the receiver,

Lock the trigger assembly back in. Use a screw driver to cock the hammer. Put the safety on and then you should be able to pull the trigger assembly out. If you have trouble putting the bolt back in look on this site for info.

Ok

Just as you said, I pushed the hammer back with a steel dowel and it cocked fine. Then I set the safety and removed the trigger mechanism.

Thanks again.
