I managed to acquire a 16" M1A SOCOM/Tanker. Side by side with 16" Mini-14 tactical, M1A is beefier obviously, but LOP and OAL on both are about equal.

How is the recoil between the two? And the noise from firing?

M1A 16" with factory comp is louder, but the recoil is no worse than 22" barrel M1A.
I have installed old Bushmaster compensator to Mini-14 due to State restriction. It is effective and not much to say about recoil. It's .223 rifle after all.
