Was at a gun shop today and found a mini 14 stock in a bin of used stuff. It is wooden but has a rifle style butt plate ruger marked. It had a little black near the forend but I bought it just because I had not ever seen one before. Here are some pics comparing it to my current stock. Any info would be cool. Thanks.

Very nice find. I have the exact same stock on my M30. What you have is a stock off the original Ranch Rifle. It is more of a sporter style with a little longer length of pull than the much more common carbine stock. I have only seen 3 or 4 others like it.

Shotgun (sporting rifle) butt Mini 14 stock

These stocks pop up from time to time. I really like the feel of these stocks.

I got one a week ago and put it on my old Mini 14 stainless. I think it improves the feel of the rifle and makes it easier for me to shoot.

I like to bring the rifle up as high on my shoulder as I can - very difficult with the curved carbine butt.

This is how we used to shoot M1s and M1As/M14s in hi-power matches. Keeps the head more upright and prevents getting a stiff neck from canting the head to get a good cheek weld. This may seem minor but shooting positions through a regular match and then shooting a leg match would leave us stiff, sore and dehydrated.

Any Marines who were stationed in Hawaii will remember the Puuloa and K-Bay rifle ranges where the matches were held.
