Just purchased my first mini-14 and I have a question. I tried to put on a front QD sling swivel and it wouldn,t fit so I drilled out the hole to fit the swivel. The base on the rifle is too wide. Would it hurt anything if I filed a little off of each side until it fit enough to lock the swivel?
Thanks, Dave in North TX

Marlin: If your talking about the area on the gas block where the factory swivel fits, no. It wouldn't hurt to thin that area out at all. Just be careful not to remove any metal from the cylindrical area about 1/2 inch above it. That area houses the pathway that gas flows through before reaching the fixed piston under the barrel. Good luck.
