I had to send my Mini back to Ruger, and I just used the box that it came in. The owner's manual warns that if you do that, you will never see the original box again because they damage it when they open it at the Ruger service department. That was no big deal to me. They sent it back to me in a box like the one that it came with upon purchase. If you don't have original the box anymore, you can make your own with a large piece of cardboard and a utility knife. A box that a TV comes in or any appliance box ought to be big enough. Make sure its secure enough in the box that it doesn't slide around.

Include a letter describing the problem with the rifle. Then take it down to UPS. If you're in a bit a hurry, the 2nd day and 3rd day air rates are a reasonably good deal. If you're in no hurry, the standard UPS ground shipping is pretty cheap. I think it was less than $10 from the West Coast to New Hampshire including insurance.

SHIPPING FIREARMS FOR REPAIR RlJGERCi> ItlINI.14Ci> RANCH RIFLES returned to the factory for repair should be sent to: Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc., Product Service Department, 411 Sunapee St., Newport, New Hamp****e 03773. Telephone {603) 865-2442. Guns should be sent prepaid. We will not accept collect shipments. The Federal Gun Control Act, as well as the laws of most States and localities, do not prohibit an individual {who is not otherwise barred from purchasing or possessing a firearm) from shipping a firearm directly to the manufacturer for repair. However, before you ship your rifle to us, be certain that your State or locality does not have a law or regulation which will prohibit you from receiving the rifle from us after it has been repaired. If such receiving is prohibited, then please have a Federally Licensed firearms dealer ship the gun to us. If your rifle is sent to us by a dealer, it will be returned to him after being repaired. If a handgun {pistol or revolver) is shipped by an individual who does not hold a Federal Firearms License, it must be shipped via U.P.S. Persons who do not hold a Federal Firearms License are prohibited by Federal law from shipping a handgun by Mail. Handguns mailed in violation of the law are impounded by the Post Office. DO NOT SEND GUN BOXES OR LITERATURE THAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE COLLECTOR'S ITEMS -THESE ARE INVARIABLY DAMAGED OR DESTROYED IN SHIPMENT. Please do not include rifle case, sling, telescopic sights or custom accessories with a firearm being shipped to the factory for service. Rifles and shotguns may be shipped via Parcel Post. Always insure your shipment. Enclose a letter which includes your name, address, telephone number, serial number and model of the firearm. Describe in detail the trouble you have experienced with your firearm, or the work you wish to have done. Merely stating that the firearm "needs repair" is inadequate information. Work performed will bear a net minimum labor charge of $15.00 plus a $5.00 shipping and handling charge. The charge for rebluing the RlJGERCi> ItlINI.14Ci> RANCH RIFLE is $35.00 plus a $5.00 shipping and handling charge. Custom gunsmithing service or nonstandard alterations are NOT AVAILABLE from Ruger Product Service Departments.

Also ask for a manual. This is in the Manual.;)

I have also heard that Ruger will not return factory folding stocks or GB models.Supposedly, these were never meant for civilian sale or use. They will instead send you a coupon for a new rifle. I don't know this for a fact, but have heard this many times. I would not want to find out the hard way,so
if I ever had to send anything back to the factory,I'd probably just send the bad part itself, and keep the rest of the rifle. But I belive federal law allows a private citizen to send a gun back to the manufacturer and them to send it back to the person without going through a dealer.

Just make sure when you send out any rifle that you insure it. I always in sure it for twice the value. You know its going to be a pain in the ass if they loose and to many of us we would lose something very special. at least this way you know you can get 2 of them or something twice as better when they get around to cutting you a check.
