I recently picked up a Redfield 3-9x40 to mount on my 581 series all weather Ranch in .223 cal. I used the factory Ruger mounts that came with the rifle & noticed that in order to get a full picture at 9x in needed to slide it back on the mounts so the rear ring is only 1/8" to 3/16" from the turrets. My question is will this hurt anything because the scope isn't centered on the mounts? Everything seems pretty tight & secure when mounted. Thanks for any feed back.

It won't hurt anything not being centered. Just make sure your rings have a fairly even space between the top of the ring and the bottom and tighten evenly. I have moutned many that are not centered due to eye relief issues.

Having the scope "centered" on the mount is completely irrelevant.
With the rings loose enough to slide the scope, shoulder the rifle in your own "natural" position and bring the stock up for a comfortable cheekweld. Then slide the scope fore/aft until you get the correct eye relief. Snug up the rings.

The scope gets mounted to you- not the other way around.

Thanks guys !!! I thaught that's the way it has to be because of the eye relief but none of my other rifles with scopes are offset on the rings as much as the mini, thanks again for the help.

A good idea is to evenly torque the ring screws, the manufacturer will give you the poundage to torque. Good luck!

+1 to all the above, and once you get comfortable with the placement, Loc-Tite all the screws, lest they loosen over time.
