I'm glad this forum came on-board. This way we will get an
idea how different members have their weapons set up.
It should prove to be heplful and interesting to see how
folks from different parts of the country and maybe even
the world " customize" these inexpensive and all-purpose
rifles. I'll get mine on here once I update to a desktop
that can handle more than 75MHz and has more mem
than 16bits. Yep I'm using one made back in 93-4. Still
works but barely. That's about to change soon. Thanks

We could use some photo tips from some of you computer jocks. This is how I attached my picture. I used a regular 35mm camera. Took picture, and developed at Walmart. Scanned picture, and used Adobie Photo Deluxe (It came with the scanner) to frame, sized to 92%, converted to JPEG. Saved. clicked on browse in the attachment box below. Selected the photo from my files. Click on Submit Reply below. Its done! If you don't have a scanner, Walmart will put the pictures on a floppy for you. All you need then is A Photo Program to Edit pictures. I got a free one (Corel Custom Photo) with my ink cartridge. Any tips from you experts would be appreciated by us novices. Hopes this helps someone.

Digital photography is one of my major hobbies so I fool around with this stuff a lot. Basically you need a program that will resize the image to 640x480 and save it as a jpeg file. Then compress the image 10-40% (some trial and error to get the best balance of size vs. quality) until you have a file about 70kb. I use Paint Shop Pro for this purpose. It helps to leave Windows explorer open so you can keep checking the image after you save it to check that it's no more than 70-75kb.

I also sharpen the image to get as much detail as possible.

Now that I got the computer upgraded, I hope to post a picture
of my popgun on here. I still don't have a clue as to how to do
it, but I'll figure it out. I have a digital camera, a real cheap one
but I'm going to practice taking shots with it. Then I'll figure out
how to post on this gallery. I'm reading Cajungeo and Codger's
posts so it'll be just a matter of time. We're really starting to
see some nice rifles here...

It's getting to the point where some very decent digital cameras are inexpensive. HP, Kodak and Sony have models in the $100-125 range. Most cameras come with software and a connecting cable so you can connect the camera to your PC and upload the pictures. Even digital camcorders allow you to put movies up on your PC.

If you don't have (or don't want) a digital camera, You can also have 35mm film developed and get a CD with the pics on it. The Kodak service found at different department stores usually offers just a couple hours turnaround. The CD comes with software that automatically installs on your PC and you follow the simple instructions to copy the pics from the CD to your PC. This is a great tool for people who want to e-mail pics to others.

Your ISP typically provides around 10MB of storage space (they typically give you space to create your own web page) so you can store pictures there for displaying on internet sites. Then use the "IMG" code button to insert the hyperlink where your pics are stored.

Only bought my used Mini14 several weeks ago and now waiting for a seller (he called me with a very reasonable deal and removed the gun from the auction) to receive the check for my first Mini 30!

Although middle-aged, recently began plinking with larger than .22 caliber (M-1 carbine, now Mini and Mosin ), since last October, for the most part, after almost never touching a gun for 20 year (I never knew that we had access to open land until we left the city...paper targets-no way).

I've been reading about magazine problems for the 30. It amazes me that Ruger has shown so little leadership about these.
On average, would a metal magazine be more reliable for it, and if so, which?
How about a former LEO mag?

Ruger only makes a 5 round magazine for the mini-30. but they work flawlessly.

Here is a link for free software for photos. You can do all kinds of stuff to photos. Resizing may be needed before exporting to website. Check "export" button at bottom of screen and change size to 640 pixel. This is generally a safe size. Experiment. Hope someone can use.

Front sights on Ruger folders

I have a couple of folders and each one has a different front sight. Is one more desirable excluding the Ac556? One has several chrome looking parts and I was told it was an Ohio State police parade rifle???? The numbers start with 185- , 181-, 191-, and 183- repectively. Thanks

New Mini 14's 1st Coyote

This is my 1st post on this forum. I've learned so much from everyone on here, especially regarding the accuracy issues and the use of a barrel strut. I've posted a pic of my new mini 14 with a home made barrel strut installed with it's first coyote. Needless to say, my groups went from 5-6" to under 1 1/2". Outstanding in my book. I love my mini and wouldn't trade it for anything. Thank you for all the outstanding information here.

My Mini 30, 14 NRA & 10/22

All my Ruger's, the 4th & 5th on the way...In the photo, from left to right, my newly acquired Mini 30 in the wood stock, the one in the middle in the Hogue Synthetic Stock is my Mini 14 NRA (I have since this photo, changed the two mini stocks around though.) & last but surely not least is my Ruger 10/22 with bsa scope. I have recently purchased via gunbroker a mini 14 "180" series bicentennial awaiting it's arrival from South Carolina & also from gunbroker a Ruger Mark III 22/45 Pistol. I have gone RUGER full blown!!! Ha! My wife thinks I am just wasting time, I tell her wait until they change the laws and you'll see...I think, after I save some money, (I have invested over 3k on guns & ammo since November, money I truly shouldn't have spent, but I think in the long run it will prove quite an investment.) I would like to get a Ruger bolt action, maybe .223 or .308...but that's in the future. Love my Ruger's, as we used to say in the Army...ALL THE WAY SIR!!!

I have three different brands, 6 in total, after market 10 round mag's, 4 metal & 2 plastic see throughs that I bought for my mini 30, hearing all these horror stories about non-ruger manufactured mags, and all I can tell you, Promag & two companies with no names, all work FLAWLESSLY in my Ruger 2007 Mini 30, I fired 350 rounds with them. Not one jam, not even a misfire. I took the same chance and bought several after market 10 rounders for my mini 14 too, again, have fired hundreds and hundreds of rounds and not one, NOT one, jam or misfire. All we can have in California is 10 rd. max, or I'd surely buy the off brand 20's & 30's too...

I don't know if this is a marketing ploy by ruger<_< or just bad luck by other mini owners, but I find it very odd that every mag in both my mini 30 & 14, off brand 10 rounders, work just as good as if Bill Ruger made them himself. I say, buy the off brand ones friend, by one at least, take a chance, I did and they work great!
