New to this Bulletin Board - purchased a ss ranch mini 14 and put a muzzel break on - trying to find the right ammo to use and also would like to know what the breakin period is?? Been looking at the posts and have learned a lot - like lots of good info on tuning this rifle.

Welcome to the forum Lenny. I pretty much followed this technique, except I used 100 rds. After the 5 rd firing, I finished the 100 rds with shooting10 rnds then clean.

I used Hoppe's Benchrest Copper Solvent. Make shure you go by the solvent's instructions about the time left in bore, esp on harsh cleaners.

Use a bore guide, and plastic coated rod, or a tactical cleaning cable so as not to ruin the muzzle's crown, as a worn or damaged crown will affect accuracy.

Click on the search button (upper right), and enter keywords Barrel break-in, several threads will come up on this subject.

Thanks for the info - was not aware about the bore guide and plastic coated cleaning rod. Also wasn't aware about the cleaning solvent. Guess I have been out of the gun loop too long. haven't done any real fireing since the Vietnam era!! My wife andf I found a gun club and have just started shooting again!!
