lee you'll need to have a barrel wrench and a proper way to support the reciever or barrel blocks and a reciever wrench. If the reciever is not properly supported you can damage it. Also the new barrel will need timed and HEAD SPACE checked. Myself I'd farm the job out to a gunsmith familar with mini's. Going price would be $25.00-40.00 well worth it.

If you need to replace the barrel, don't fool with that factory garbage.Buy a Shilen and cut it to 16" and you'll be much happier. Its already threaded & chambered, just ream the gas port.Thread the it to 1/2 x 28 and screw on a M16 birdcage suppressor.:sniper:

Thanks for all the suggestions. What I plan to do is replace a 1-10 twist barrel with a 1-9 twist so I can shoot 62 gr. bullets. I plan to cut the barrel down to 16+ inches and install a factory flash supressor and a factory sight bayonet lug combo. I have all the parts, a lathe, and some guts. I figure that if I measure the case clearance with the old barrel, mark the receiver for the barrel flat, carefully disasemble and reassemble I will be able to tell if I am in the ball park. I have to design some sort of barrel vise and receiver wrench.
