After reading numerous very helpful posts in this forum, I started a mini-14 accurizing project. I started with a stock Ruger mini-14 stainless steel Ranch, 195 series, with wood stock and 1in 9" twist barrel. I was getting around 3-4" groups at 100 yards with 77 grain Sierra BTHP, 25 grains Accurate 2520, Tasco TR3940WA scope with Ruger rings. I had barrel, slide and receiver cryo treated ( to increase accuracy, velocity, and lengthen life of metal by making it harder) at PERCRYO.COM. Price was $40.50 including 10% discount to NRA members. I treated barrel with Tetra Gun Care Products ( TETRAPRODUCTS.COM ) to increase accuracy and velocity. I purchased and installed 3.75# trigger job and shok buffer from Mike Knifong ( email: MIKE.W. [email protected] ). I tried his largest gas bushing, but had ejection problems, and had to reinstall factory Ruger gas bushing. I guess the gun hasn't been shot enough to weaken the recoil spring enough for smaller gas bushing. I installed a Leupold VX-II, 3x9x50 scope, using Ruger extra high rings. Then, I loaded 77 grain Sierra BTHP bullets, once fired grade 1 brass from Midwayusa.com, 25 grains Varget, bullet seated to 2.245" Over All Length. Then, shot 2.25" groups at 100 yards. Then, installed JOHN MASEN double muzzle break from CHEAPERTHANDIRT.COM. tHEN, 2" GROUPS AT 100 YARDS WITH FLIERS TO AROUND 4". I then installed a CLARK Custom Laminated stock from CLARKCUSTOMGUNS.COM. ( It's a very tight fit--had to pull hard (front to back) on recever, with stock butt on my hip to get receiver lugs to fit behind front leg of stock reinforcement, part#MS00700. ) FINAL RESULTS: first 3 shots (as quickly as accurate sight picture could be obtained)--------1/4" at 35 yards. Next 3 shots ( again, as quickly as accurate sight picture could be obtained)---- 3/4" center to center ( equilateral triangular group ) at 100 yards!! NOTE: All shots fired resting on sandbags. Also, before cryo treatment and Tetra Gun Care Products treatment, barrel got hot from shooting. Afterward, barrel just gets warm, seeming to indicate reduced friction and thus, higher velocity, as advertised. I can't help but wonder how much more accurate the gun would shoot if I used bullets wihin the weight range that my 1 turn in 9" barrel WOULD STABILIZE!! UPDATE: With continued shooting, groups have deteriorated to what they were before laminated stock installation. This appears to be due to shooting recoil loosening the stock to receiver fit. Also, had to remove Shok Buffer to eliminate ejection problems. Now, 5 shot groups back to around 4" at 100 yards. A bedding job appears to essential to regain accuracy. I'm considering steel bedding as a more long term accurizing solution. UPDATED
