I just recently bought a 181 series mini 14. It came with wood and synthetic stock, but obviously wood stock is original.

I love the look of the synthetic but the problem is the upper part is wood. I have seen many different style but not sure what I can do to fix it.

What are my options?

Where can I get a new piece that is not wood?

Congrats on your purchase. That upper part is the handguard. Choate makes a black replacement or you can usually find the newer stock handguards on gunbroker. Midway has tons of mini accessories so check there too. If you want to go with a scout rail setup the amegas and ultimak are the way to go. I'm personally a big fan of the ultimak, it's sleek and useful.

Also, check out the mini gallery here on the site tons of great ideas.

this handguard is NOS, (new-old stock) and has the metal clip that encircles rear of handguard, securing it to gun. I bought it, intending to modify it somewhat to fit 181, but finally found one for the 181 series. Like I said, it is new, not a mark on it. send me your email address, and I will send u some pics. tks. Terry

has anyone, with /GB model w/bayonet lug, ever moved lug forward 2-2.5 inches? I want to add barrel stabilizer and have less than 3 in between gas block and lug. I want to use 5-6 in stabilizer bar, so would have to move lug forward 3 in or so. would that look odd? just seeking opinions. tks to all.
