Hi Guys, Im a newbie seeking advice on the Springfield M1A. I am considering purchasing a M1A with fiberglass stock. Started looking at the M1A Squad Scout with 18" bbl. It really turned me on. Any pros, cons, advice about the Scout will be appreciated. Also any LER scopes and some of the new "dot" sights. Thanks.

Depends on what you want to do with the rifle. If you are going to target and match shoot, the full size gun is a better option.

If you are considering it for tactical purposes or use around the ranch, the 18" bbl is a far better choice. You loose a bit of velocity and have a bit of increased blast, but neither is a concern at "social" distances ~250 yards. The target won't no the difference.

It's a fine rifle. I prefer it over the M4 carbine that most are enamored with. I have an M4 because it's light and handy, but if I had go a walking, I'd pick the M1A Scout
