What will you be using it for? The barrel length will obviously affect long range accuracy. But if it is just a field rifle, then I would definately get the Scout, I plan too. Just try to get one with USGI parts. (Good luck.)

There is no loss in long range accuracy with a bush lengh barrel in a M1A. Anyone who writes or suggests so, never chronoed their bush length rifle.. Give Ron Smith a call at Smith Enterprise and ask him!:2guns:

If you've got the chrono data, don't keep us in suspense, tell us ...... The info I've seen shows a lower velocity, but not enough to loose sleep over, since the vast majority of the powder is burned within the first 16".

You will find the accuracy excellent, *MUCH* better than the standard, and surprisingly close to the Loaded.
I would expect a minimal accuracy difference due to the shorter sight radius, and some additional bullet drop at very long ranges (600 yds and beyond) due to a slightly lower velocity. YMMV

The loaded also has a better trigger, which Fulton or others can remedy inexpensively.

Ok folks, just got my NM Scout back from SMITH ENT. Double lugged, SA receiver, Douglas med barrel, NM gas system, trigger, sights, bedded to a Marine Corps McMillan, Arms 18 & throw base with Kahles ZF84 10X42 scope. Should shoot well.. Taking it out soon and laugh at those who thing they are being short changed with a "bush" lengh M1A setup.

Hey, Mr. M1AZ,
That picture is so wrong! You're using a wide angle lense, skewed at an obtuse angle over the muzzle to completely distort all sense of proportion!

Come on, give us a sideshot of your supersonic ball-launching machine without the special effects!

I'm 6'7" tall, so the standard rifle IS a bush rifle for me (lol).

Looks nice, I'd like to try one out. But I still don't have my std. length M1A/M14, so I'll get one of those first.... but that looks to be a very sweet rifle...
