Hi everyone;

Just finished a second careful reading of Feinstein's Intolerable Act, and it does appear to me that although the M1A is not specifically named, it is an "assault weapon" via the threads for the castle nut.

Here's why -
"The term ‘threaded barrel’ means a feature or characteristic that is designed in such a manner to allow for the attachment of a device such as a firearm silencer or a flash suppressor."

Since that bill only uses "one feature", we're burned if it passes, since the threads "allow for the attachment of a...flash suppressor" via the castle nut/FSB assembly. Looks like we get to keep 'em legally, but any transfers get kinda sticky - and possibly $$. There is a section towards the end that lets the BATFE set fees for transfers at their whim.

So any M1A guys out there who thought you were off the hook and sitting this one out - nope - please write!

All the best,
Grumpy

So,even though every FFA is out of M1As, does that mean my wait list is NG?
Hi Norbay, not quite sure what an FFA is. However, I would not lose sleep over it at this point, since nothing has happened yet. And there is a good chance we can keep our rights. Not sure who has your backorder, but I have plenty of backordered stuff myself, and I'm not losing sleep over it.

That can change though, particularly if we ease up on the emails, letters, and phone calls to our congresscritters, telling them to leave our second amendment rights alone.

Whole point to the post was not to panic people, but to motivate them. Worst thing that happens to the progun people is complacency, thinking that our particular guns are not under threat.

All the best,

On the N.Y. gun grab the law specifically says, " the flash hider and the threads to attach it" are illegal. I'm thinking of turning off the threads and removing or modifying the flash hider to make it legal. I've got a year to make up my mind. With my luck they will change the rules and ban all semi-autos just to screw me. The law allows the removal of banned features so far.

Hi eugene;

Have you checked over at M14forum.com ? They have a specific thread dealing with the SAFE act, and some of the proposed technical fixes for those who are a. stuck in NY, and b. unwilling to commit civil disobedience are far less destructive than turning down the threads. Some involve silver solder over the threads, which could then be restored once you remove yourself and your rifle to freedom.

All the best,
Grumpy
