Is the stock you have just new or is it synthetic?

The stock on a gun is quite easy to refinish if you are willing to put the time in doing it.

As soon as I get finished accurizing mine, I plan on stripping it down and putting a linseed oil finish on it. I want to get all the word done before I make it pretty. I generally like a dark stock. The factory stock that I have on mine now could be refinished and would turn out very light if you just used a good clear finish without any stain.

I have seen posts here on this board that have stocks for sale. I was looking on eBay.com and noticed that you can find stocks for sale there as well. Just search for mini 14 stock and you will find a variety of stocks for sale farily cheep.

Sounds like you have a std Ruger wood stock, unless someone refinished it. You may want to strip it, and put a saten finish on it. My wood stock was slick, especially if I had a little oil on my fingers, thats why I got a Hogue Rubber Overmold stock.

OH BTW Zero precision also makes some nice laminates, you can get them from brownells, and royal arms gunstocks will make about anything you want as will wenig, with a duplicating machine they can cut the stock to any shape then set up to inlet, almost anything is possible
