I'm looking for a gunsmith in Illinois that can install the shilen muzzle weighted barrel on a mini14, I called three so far & no one wants to touch it. Wis., Ind, Or Iowa would be okay. I'm trying to get around shipping the rifle thru the mail- I would prefer to drive & drop off. Mich. is okay also. Thanks.

If something in Wisconsin will satisfy you...Bill's Sporting Good's in Lomira has a very good reputation locally. I haven't had any work done by their gunsmiths but I bought my mini 14 there and I have only had good experiences with their service.

The problem is UPS wants a gun shipped to a FFL from a FFL. Its a pain in the ass here in IL.!

Dogman, where do you live in Gun Hating Illinois. If your not to far from Paducah Ky. you may want to drive it. I do some Bow and Rifle hunting there at the Ballard WMA. I noticed several smiths being spoke of. Thats a very sportman orrientted comunity due to the large whitetail, wild turkey, and this Mississippi flyway brings waterfoul and hunters with gun that some time need to be fixxed.

I dont like to send anything like that through the mail either, no telling what kind of communist hands it will end up in.
