Mark's S&W SS

I love this pistol! It is dead accurate, and it fit like a glove right out of the box! Head shots at 25 yards like no ones business.... Mark

Sorry for the poor image quality, I've got to get a new camera.

These are my "mutts"

Both are homebuilt, use Double Star frames, and stainless barrels..

The top gun has an Essex slide, Pachmayr combat grips and wilson trigger group including hammer and grip safety.

The bottom gun has an Auto Ordanance slide and trigger group, and walnut grips.

Both use Chip Mckormic 8 rnd mags.

Nice,

So the "mil-spec" and the "G.I." lines must be different?

I hadn't realized they were different models until now.
Here ya go......

WW2 (GI) Model: Pistol closely replicates the basic 1911A1 as used by the US military for seven decades. Features:
  • high wall ("narrow") ejection port
  • low profile GI sights
  • lanyard loop on mainspring housing
  • vertical cocking serrations on slide
Mil-Spec: Pre-dated the G.I. model, adds some popular features/upgrades
  • stainless barrel and bushing (some models)
  • loaded chamber indicator (some models)
  • lowered and flared ejection port
  • high profile 3-dot sights
  • beveled magazine well
  • loss of the lanyard loop on mainspring housing
  • forward-raked cocking serrations on slide

I wasn't looking into 1911s due to their limited capacity until I saw this.....

A mechanical work of art. Mr. Browning, Thank you so very much. No other firearm has such a storied past nor fits my palm so well.

Colt 70 Series, Combat Commander 1911 in satin nickel finish.
Bulletproof Wilson Combat slide stop, Wilson Combat thumb safety and hammer. Wilson Combat Trigger. Ed Brown sear spring, sear and disconnector. Wilson Combat Bullet Proof firing pin and spring. Ed Brown extractor.

AMT Hardballer. Lowered and flared ejection port. Jeweled barrel, Lightened Ed Brown hammer, Millett sights.
MGW barrel bushing, enhanced slide stop and enhanced, extended thumb safety. Ed Brown Sear spring. Dwyer/Wilson Combat Group Gripper, Dan Wesson sear and disconnector. Ed Brown Extractor, Wilson Combat Bullet Proof Firing Pin and spring, Wolff main spring and recoil spring. Kings Mag Bumpers on Dan Wesson Pointman Mags. Wilson Combat Mag Springs. I'm sure I've forgotten something but you get the idea.

All work on both guns done by me in the late 90s early 2000. Both are tuned for CQB with a heavy trigger, breaks like glass and are very accurate.

I loved mine (P14 limited SS) and when I sold it I started looking for another
Its a brick of a gun and heavy. I'm a pretty big guy though so I was able to carry it in a bladetech IWB holster very comfortably.

This was THE first (and still my only) 1911 that was more accurate than I am. I was simply amazed at the trigger re-set, trigger break and accuracy I got from this gun. The weight keeps the muzzle down and double taps are a sinch with it. I sold it because a friend of mine was lusting after it and offered to trade me a NIB H&K USP 45 that I could carry on duty. I couldn't carry the P-14 as it was as single action only handgun.

There is a store near me that has a P16 LDA (40 S&W) for sale for around $600. I've been eyeing it for about a year now and I think it will eventually go home with me. Since its a wide body frame here in CA people tend to shy away and get something that is a little easier to fit in your hand since most here are limited to 10 round mags. Seems a horible waste of space with those last 6 or so rounds gone in a 16 roud vs 10 round mag for this gun.

Very true but 10 is still better than 7 IMO. Thanks for your review, I may look into one of these down the road.

Rock Island Gov. 5"

Kimber 8 round flush fit mag.

Mec-Gar 10 round (not really flush)

The grips are some NOS Pachmayrs I got at a gun show for $8

The oil I used on the outside is TRI-FLO Has teflon in it and works great to keep dirt/fingerprints off
