What an incredible difference the Lasik has made. I had it done about 5 hours ago, and I already see an amazing difference. The doc said that it would take about a week to get to its best, as the eye has to heal and get rid of the extra fluid, but I can see far away as well as I could WITH glasses before the surgery. Up close is still a little blurry, though I can see well enough to type.

The discomfort was extremely minimal, and the only part that hurt was handing over a $2200 check.

Color brightness and contrast has also improved dramatically. I highly recommend this to anyone thinking about it.

Alright! Nothing like being able to chuck the old glasses huh? Well you're braver than I am. The pessimist in me doesn't want to be on of the 5%. Congrats and hope all the post surgery follow-ups go good!

And, you dang well better shoot better now for $2200! Ha Ha!

 Oh my. That's as frightening as Hillary Clinton saying "its for your own good."

This morning I can see better past 3 feet than I could WITH my glasses before, and can read up close. My vision is still fluctuating a bit at the near range, but they said it would do that for a few days.

If you go with the new laser, which is a 2mm laser that moves around instead of one single 6 or 8 mm laser, the rate of patients getting to 20/40 or better is 99.7%. 20/20 is just over 83% and 20/16 is just over 30%. Your odds are pretty good.

What are the befores pictures like. I have always wanted to but when I saw the waiver (not responsible for any collateral damage like loosing my retirement if I can't stay on active duty) I decided not to. I am 42 and where bifocals.

Just as a final note, I had my 2 month follow up last week. There are a total of three follow ups (next day, next week, two months after surgery) were they make sure everything is as it should be.

Final result was 20/15 in each eye individually, right at 20/10 combined, so I went from 20 times worse than average to twice as good.

I have no halo effect or starbursts at night, although I did have very faint ones for the first two weeks.

Color remains brighter, although I've gotten used to the "new view" so I don't notice it like I did at first. Contrasting colors are easier to see, as well. I can wear goggles and safety glasses that seal, can wear a scarf or ski mask without fogging lenses, etc.

In the end, no ill effects, vastly inproved vision, and a feeling that its the best money I've spent. I would recommend this to ANYONE who is eligible without hesitation. :D

It depends on the cause. If its because of age, where the muscles that control the focusing of the eye, Lasik won't help. If its the result of the cornea being misshaped, it can. Most places offer a free evaluation to let you know if you can benefit or not, so if your interested you can find out pretty easily.

I found this on a Lasik web site that explains it in pretty general terms:
In nearsightedness, tissue is removed from the center of the cornea to flatten it. In farsightedness, tissue is removed from the edges of the cornea to make the center of the cornea relatively steeper. In astigmatism, an elliptical ( oval ) area of the cornea is removed to make it rounder. When correcting for nearsightedness or farsightedness astigmatism can be corrected at the same time.
