once again, i have a mini-14 with a pistol grip stock, high cap mags, and a muzzle brake. the gun was bought brand new in '99 so it's definatley post ban. IS my gun legal in this configuration? i was just told by a guy behind the counter at a local gunshop that it is NOT legal. i live in florida if that makes any difference. i told the guy he was FOS! someone who knows what they're talking about please give me an answer, i hate to get in trouble with a gun that i thought was legal. thanks!!

Is it a Muzzle Brake or a "flash supressor"

The paragraph of the bill in question says:

a semi-automatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following: a folding or telescoping stock; a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; a bayonet mount; a flash suppressor or threaded barrel; and a grenade launcher;

So it sounds like you are legal.

it's DEFENITLEY a muzzle brake. i bought it from bushmaster and it is listed in their catalog as a muzzle brake.

i have a kung-fu like grip when i'm cold and dead which is the way i'll have to be for you to get it. by the way, i'm the proud new owner of an M1A...just got it a few hours ago...so BEWARE!

Haa! Cold Kung Fu grips are easily countered with bolt cutters. The real question is how: many rounds will be left in your gun when they pry it from that grip?

So write your reps. The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban expires next year. Feinstein and her bunch are trying to either renew it or pass one that's worse. Write your reps and tell them that you will not reelect a member or a party that votes to have the bill reinstated. There are some pretty good sample letters here:
