I plan on buying a Mini-14, but I shoot left handed. Is there any problem with escaping gasses or the case being ejected? I own a couple of right hand pump actions guns and have no problems with the case being ejected. Any other left hand shooters out there that own a Mini?

Can't speak for the ranch model but with my mini-14 it ejects cases and sends them forward about 5 feet to the 2 o'clock position, especially with handloads using VihtaVuori powder.
I would try both models if possible.

Anytime, again, I would try to shoot a standard or preban mini if possible, personally I hate the ranch model, and would never own one.

I was leaning toward buying the ranch because it comes with scope base and rings. Are there different shooting characteristics between the regular mini-14 and the ranch? Any other differences?

There are subtle differences but cajun can be more specific I believe. The ranch throws the brass rearwards pretty far as well-I don't know how well you would like that.
There have to be lefties with ranch models here? Anyone?

Hey XLT. You can shoot the regular mini or the Ranch mini left handed with no problem. I chose the ranch as it is scope friendly, (brass ejects sideways to clear the scope, and mount), Has an intergral mount, and comes with rings.

Thanks for the info everyone, I'm going to buy one this weekend. I hope to get out and shoot it right away, but we're suppose to get some more snow this weekend. Regular, ranch, blued, or stainless??? I'll let ya's know.

just thought i'd confirm what every one else said, my standard mini-14 tosses emptys out to the front in a neat little pile about 4 feet in front of me, (makes it easy to pick up my brass), my brothers ranch model throws the out the right side HARD, the scatter all over the place about 25 yards away and are ussually dented in the case mouth. he uses a brass catcher so he can find them to reload.

I ended up getting a regular mini-14, SS with wood stock. There was a small chip in the end of the stock, so I got it for the same price as the blued model. Also picked up a couple of different brands of ammo, to see what shoots better in it. Just waiting for the snow to stop!
