Made in 1918, issued in WWII. I bought it from the widow of the original owner, she was 23 years his junior. Its had a good rublue job which I'm sure decreases its value but I bought it right I think. Pics to follow as soon as the sun comes out.
It rattles like I knew it would..... they built um loose in those days.

ahhhhh....a pre A1 version !! I gotta see those pics !!!
It is supposed to be cloudy and rainy for the next 4 days here in S. Texas.
I've been trying to buy this gun off of the woman friend for a few years. She was reluctant to sell "memories and keep sake" she said over and over again. I thought she may be softening up when she brought it over day before yesterday. We sat at the table her still hesitant me trying to make her feel like letting me have it it would still be in the "family". I even told her that if she outlived me my wife would give it back to her she keeping the $1K I was offering for it. I was surprised when she told me I could have it. It is not my most prized possession but damn close.... knowing what it meant to her and the feelings she must have for me by letting me have it.

I've always wanted a Government Colt

being a 1918 mfg but WW2 issue, i'm wondering if it's the freakish refurb model with 1911 slab sides, but the A1 hammer, curved MSH, short trigger and A1 grips.

man I can't wait to see it!

Government refurbed 1911s were all Parkerized and plastic grips installed. This one has wood grips (although dented) and shiny reblued. Its in great shape although refinished.

ummmmmm........gov't never put plastic grips on 1911s, at least not thru the Viet Nam era...
A1 grips had no diamond pattern, and a metal grommet for each screw hole.

1911 Forum will be the place to get the real skinny on it though......just be prepared for some real high winds from the blow-hards residing there.

p.s. edit
my Dad worked during the early '70s in the Anniston Army Depot smallarms refurb unit switching back and forth between 1911-A1s and M16A1s depending on what the weeks shipment was.

I've been a member of the 1911 forum for a couple of years. I'd post pics over there but I know about what the responses will be. My main joy in buying this 1911 was talking the owner out of it a process which too 3 years. I like the gun and thats all that is important to me, I'll never sell it so value is no bid deal.
