Working at a gun shop is not good for my illness. Even though I have a 181 Series GB Model and a 584 Series Mini-30, I just put a minty 583 Series Mini-14 on layaway. It has original stock, Archangel stock, Sig Romeo 5 red dot, 8 factory mags and a tactical bag. I'll loose the Archangel as it makes a under 7 pound handy carbine into a 10 plus pound boat anchor. Probably get 100 for it.

I think I am going to take off the rail and Sig Romeo 5 red dot, It will be my home defensive carbine, and I don't need it on there. It also has a Mo-Rod stabilizer on the barrel, which is unnecessary for a close in gun. Want it to be under 6.5 pounds. The new factory stock it has is nice, but I will see which is lighter: the hew facory or a 181 series stgock I have. I repl;axced the factory Poly stock that was on my 584 Mini-30 with a wood 580 series factory stock, as that length of pull works better for me with my Bushnell banner 1.5 to 4x scope I have on the Mini-30.

Updated picture. Now my primary Home Defense carbine: LEO marked 20 round mag from when I was a deputy, loaded with IMI 77 grain OTM MK262 MOD1 clone ammo. Serious thump! Has Buffer Tech rear buffer, Tech Sight 1" M1 sling, and a new Ruger OEM recoil spring. Definitely an M1 Carbine with a "stiffy

Beautiful! I have been thinking about loading up some 223 with Hornady 75 gr bullets but my buddies at the LGS tell me not to waste my time because they won't feed in a mini. You have encouraged me to go forward with the project. Thanks

I load Nosler and Hornady 77s for both my Mini and AR with no problem. Even though the 583 is 1/9, I have had good luck with MK262 MOD1 77s. same as 55s at 100, and will still hit the 200 yard 12" gong. Doesn't work as well at 300+ as it does in a 1/7, though.

Took the 583 to the range yesterday. Whoever had it before had it perfectly dialed in! With iron sights, shooting IMI MK262 MOD1, 77 grain OTMs, using a 6 o'clock hold, it shattered clay pigeons on the 100 yard berm 100% of the time, then hit the larger pieces of the clay pigeon that were left. Function was 100%. I had new OEM spring from Midway and a Buffer Tech rear buffer. Very nice shooting.. Great home defense carbine.
