Without pulling a scope of mine, I wonder if any here has theirs off and can answer for me. How wide are the scope bases on the receiver of the Mini 14 Ranch, and also how long they are, and how far inside to inside, they are apart.

Lots I know, but would be appreciated.

I am referring to the built in part that Ruger makes you attach the rings to.

.495" is the width and 4.04" is the length measured to the outside of the bosses.
This is on a 580 series. I had it written down, so taking further measurements will require some time and effort, but can be done later.

Thanks. I am thinking of building a one piece scope rail that will cover both spots on the rifle, for scope attachment, and lower it considerably.

Well, never mind I guess, found one on Midway, that Weaver makes. No sense re-inventing the wheel I spose.

handrifle: Have you looked at the Weigand or GG&G rails? They're both very high quality and made from aircraft aluminum so they're as light as possible. Here's a picture of my 582-series Mini-14 Tactical with Weigand rail and UTG 3-9 X 32 MM CQB scope:
