Are hotter loads generally necessary for reliable function/cyling with smaller (under.50) gas ports? Nothing over book max but above mid range.

An .050 gas bushing is greatly reduced in gas volume/prressure from the OEM gas bushing, and is a good place to start.
Thanks to all that posted. Looks like so far everyone that's replied is going with the.050. It's been trouble free for me too but throws the brass too far for a range with other shooters on the right within 15 feet. I'll be trying the .045 next with different loads.
