we spent 6 hours at the range yesterday and i have 2 mini14 that will not would not group 10 or 15 inches at 25 yards, 25 yards. I am ready to run them over with a bull dozer. No one has been more loyal to these rifles than me i believe, but that just reeked. Both rifles side by side winchester 55gr, and umc 55gr . What a f#$%@^&g Joke. I was embarassed not just for me but all who tried to shoot them accurately, and the sorry a$$ed manufacturer. Standard mini14 no modifications,if i hadnt been so pi$$ed off we would have gotten pictures. The ar15 did 3/8 at 25 yards with a 1/7 barrel with the same ammo, the savage made one hole at 75 yds when time was taken, it was pleasing. The 10/22 at 50 yards was accurate to hit a water mocasin 1 or 2 shots very accurate. I really like the mini but almost ready to literally do away with them. I have read and heard of bent barrels crooked sites sloppy reciever fit and have defended the rifles to people. Not any more, git it to a smith and checkit out or dont buy it. I do not like ar 15s either so thats no option. I have one that has 300 $ more in it that will shoot 2 or 5 inches at 200 yards,it was a lot of trouble to git it to shoot and i like it . Thanks for letting me vent, damn! Bobby.

Now Bobby tell us how you really feel----It's very strange that both rifles shoot so badly with the same ammo. Are these rifles factory standard or have you done anything to modify them in anyway? With groups that bad I'd want to look at the scopes if they are scoped or the receiver to stock fit. If they are factory rifles I'd talk to Customer Service at Ruger & see about sending them back. You need to be calm when talking to these people, they can't help you if you're calling your Mini's everything but a Singer sewing machine.

Good luck

send them to the Al-Queda heeheh. seriously that sucks, what a let down I feel for ya bro. what kind of sighting did you do? Iron sights I suspect. they can be a pain in the arse on the stock mini gear. If you have a spare scope handy maybe you can throw that on there and do some controlled zeroing. At least you'll be able to check one more thing off the list. I found a mil-spec rear peep aperture on www.deltaforce.com. The website is a pain to navigate but this little gadget is a drop-in and very user friendly - no micro screw drivers needed. Don't give up!!!

SP,
How is that rear sight from delta force I was looking at it once and was told that it is plastic and won't hold zero, therefore not worth buying. At the time no one on the forum had one other than the person who didnot like it. I would have to look in some of the older threads to find where it is.

Hey Bobby, are you using a scope? I once got 12" groups. It was because the scope came loose. I have also heard others with similar problems, the cross hairs inside the scope came loose. That much has gotta be the sights. Also check if your gas block screws are loose.

Did you buy your minis new or used?

Thanks for all the replies to my vent. thanks for the pms and suggestions. Both rifles were bought used from a pawn shop and had been in storage, both are 186 series no mods to the rifles no scopes just standard mini 14s,both were cleaned before the shooting. I bought them in 95 rite after thefall of 94 crime bill,Any way they are now at the botoom of the mississippi river just south of the ole ms ark old bridge in memphis,tn I melted them down with a plasma cutter. Lol, just kidding about the river and cutting them up, boy i sure felt like it tho. I cleaned them up and will relax fore now about them they are locked up in the safe till I can git the doctor bills paid down and will spend a little on fixing them or sell one to fix the other, maybe trade one for work on the uther, they are fun and handy little rifles. Thanks

Greybear,

I bought that rear sight from Delta ... it was junk, made out of plastic and when installed I couldn't mount my scope (it was to high). I sent it back and had to take a store credit cuz they don't refund money. Very disappointing.

That really is strange to have 2 rifles shooting that badly. Yes, check the scope if you're using one like cajungo said. My mini has destroyed two scopes so far and I had bad results using a side-mount.

You may want a gunsmith to check the crowns on the rifling. These can be damaged if the previous owner(s) were sloppy with their cleaning rods.

I had a 160 dollar bushnell 3x20x50 scope on my ranch rifle it lasted about 400-500 rounds then I got a simmons 44 mag 3x9x44 it is still ok but gets nocked off set really easy .Tasco makes a scope that now has a goverment contract it is a verry good scope in the 150 - 200 range I have seen these scopes take alot of abuse and all are still working perfectly.

Ruger will work on a rifle just because it groups over 4 inches? Are you serious?
I hadn't heard that before either Lex. Then just about every mini owner could send it back. Mine used to shoot 4 1/2" groups, but with a little tunning it shoots 1" to 1 1/2" depending on reloads or Winchester varmints. Now don't look at my shot gun patern in the shooting match. That was me, not my mini. <_<

Exactly. I don't understand why some people talk about the inaccuracy of the Mini. I mean it isnt a tack driver, but that's not what it was designed for anyway. I'm sure glad I own one.

Adaman:

No kidding.

I was getting 4-5 inch groups, first time out.

Tonight, I did a "poor man's bedding" by putting a few lines of strong, heat-resistant sealer on the spots where my action had play in the stock (on the sides).

Before, I could wiggle the action slightly from side-to-side, in the wood when the trigger assembly was unlocked. Now, there is no movement in the stock, even before locking up the trigger assembly! I was careful, so everything still fits like it should and goes in and out properly.

For $20, I have a muzzle break on the way in the mail.

I can't wait to get to the firing line this weekend. If I was at 4-5 inch groups, with a few flyers before, what is she capable of now? ;)
