I just purchased a used rancher. It came with a rubberized hogue stock. Does anyone know if it should have had the bottom metal guard in place for the action? Part # 18 on the Ruger schematic.
Also, does anyone know if a stainless muzzle break is available for the rancher?
This is a great site! I have already got some great ideas for improving my accuracy.

The Houge instructions for their Overmold stocks say NOT to use the Ruger metal reinforcement piece. Houge does say to use the forend liner though. This is the piece that fits inside of the forend of the stock.

Welcome to the forum babybronco. I don't have a part #18 in my Ruger manual, but I think you mean the Stock Reinforcement #KMS00700. If so, no it is to be left out of the hogue stock. I have a hogue. There is no prevision for it.

I installed the SS BlackWarrior double muzzle brake on my 196 series Ranch. This is where I got mine, disreguard the "will not fit 195 or newer---" It is a misprint. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/product...6BS61V07GSVA570

You can see it in the gallery. Cajungeo's Mini.

Thanks for the info on the break. Just what I was looking for and cheap too!

I'm pretty sure that it is fore end liner that I am missing. There is no metal under the barrel and the action is very sloppy. Anybody know where one of these can be had?

Don't shoot, Don't shoot!!! or you may damage your gas piston. The Forearm Liner & Stock Cap Assembly #KMS02200 is what guides the slide rod to seat the gas piston into the end of the slide rod. With out this part, the gas piston will be taking some severe hits. You can get one from Ruger or item #16 at this link: http://www.e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp...20RANCH%20RIFLE

Don't worry I knew enough not to shoot. The action was way too sloppy and thats why I took it down.

Thanks for the warning though. I suspect that I will be lurking here alot! Next purchase may well be a mini-30. Kinda got caught up in the mini-14 because of the abundance of ammo should the poop hit the fan and of course the A-Team!

Welcome the the forum Redram. This part is ment to be salvaged from your Ruger stock. If you are in the same boat as bronco i.e. if you bought a used mini, and that part is missing. Check out this link, and select the mini you have for parts. Ya gotsa have one of those parts. http://www.e-gunparts.com/model.asp?idDept=218
