Great site! I discovered this forum about a week ago, and have lurked and read as much as possible. From the various posts on the subject, I have decided to try either a flash suppressor or muzzlebreak. Initially, I was considering the Choate "cage" product with the integral sight with the protective wings, but the ones I have found are attached with only a set-screw. Being somewhat skeptical of this, I am now considering either the BlackWarrior double muzzle break or the Vortex flash hider. I have read some pretty rave reviews regarding the BlackWarrior product, so how about the Vortex? Also being somewhat vain, I am interested in the overall look of my Mini when I am finished, so does anyone have any pics of the the Vortex unit attached? Thanks in advance - Mike

The Choate FS/Front sight unit attaches with the use of a steel roll pin in addition to the set-screw. It is a good unit, and not too heavy nor too long.

The Vortex is made by Smith Enterprises (www.smithenterprise.com), and their Flash suppressors are probably the best, right up there with the Phantom Flash Suppressor.
A lot of companies make both flash suppressors and compensators/brakes. It may be that both work well, or one is OK, and the other is junk.
I take it you have looked into the legalities of attaching a flash suppressor to your Mini, so I'll just leave it that I personally prefer to have a legal Flash suppressor over just about any other add-on that's obtainable.

Thanks for the input. My mini is a pre-ban, and as I do not intend to put a pistol grip stock on anyway, I should be legal for a flash hider. Regarding the Choate unit, several suppliers (Brownells, Midway, Delta Force, etc.) seem to indicate by their descriptions that the unit is attached via a set-screw only. I had previously thought that the unit was attached via roll-pin and a set screw. Perhaps the suppliers are mistaken, or perhaps Choate has changed the unit. I'll check again to be sure.
