does the harmonic stabilizer improve your accuracy that much oris a new barrel the only way to go. I bedded my stock last week and this past weekend it showed promise, I was consistently shooting groups of 4 1/2 to 5 inches at 100 yds. Also from what I understand the fact that I used wolf doesn't help. I guess my question is: If I would use a good american ammo and got the harmonic stabilizer could I pull off 1 1/2 in groups at 100 yds with my mini 30.

thanks joel

was also wondering if some of these "black rifle guys" would own a good dependable gun if the word mini wasn't in the title?
what are they afraid of that a mini is could be just as accurate?
Why does it matter if I want to own a rifle that works every time that I pick it up?

well, enough venting

Hey Joel,
If your thinking of the same harmonic stabilizer that I am, your talking about the one from Accuracy Systems. I think the price on those is around $320. If it were up to me, I would spend the extra hundred bucks and get a new barrel. Ruger made an excelent gun when they designed the Mini's, but saved a few bucks on the barrel. A good barrel is the key to accuracy. A much cheaper fix however is the addition of a muzzle brake, not a flash hider. Bushmaster.com sells some really good ones for the Mini 14, but I don't know about the Mini 30. Before you go too nuts and spend a bunch of money, get better ammo. Wolf is great for just plinking and having fun, but it's accuracy is not great. Unfortunately, since the 7.62 x 39mm ammo is primarily designed for use in assault rifles and such, it's not as easy to find great quality ammo in that caliber. Don't get me wrong, it is out there and there is some pretty good stuff you can use, you just have to look a little harder.
As far as your rant about AR's vs. Mini's, they both have their strong points. An AR is in most cases much more accurate, but much more complicated. The Mini will keep shooting as long as you can slam a round in the chamber. Mini's are more rugged and better for use as a utility rifle. Its all personal preferance really. I like em both.

More than likely 1 1/2" to 2". Or for the same money, you could hang a $20 muzzle brake on the end of the barrel, get a $35 trigger job, select the ammo that shoots best in your mini, then get a good scope $200, and have $50 left for more ammo, and shoot to 1 1/2" to 2" groups at 100 yds.

Clark also makes a stabilizer. Use the search button, (above RT), enter stabilizer, many posts will come up.

I recently purchased a ARS Adjustible Muzzle Break. After reading and following all of the directions I installed it on Mini 14. The break uses an interference fit where the aluminum muzzle break is heated in an oven to 575 degrees F (a thermometer was used)and is then slipped on the barrel of rifle and the quenched in cool water. The idea is that the muzzle break is held on by a friction fit. The muzzle break can then be tuned in a way similar to the Browning BOSS system. However on the first shot the muzzle break came off and landed approximately 20 yards down range. Upon inspection, the break had a dimple from the glancing blow of the bullet and is unsafe to try to reinstall. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this system good or bad.

Welcome to the forum miniman14. Sorry to hear about your incident. We have had several negative posts about ARS in Texas, but hadn't seen any posts on the muzzle brake. Maybe a member or a lurker will post a similar or a positive post on the product. One of the perks of being a member is before buying a product, our 2000 + members may be able to give advice before hand.
